atta,
a presence-sensitive installation / cinematic landscape of rural Texas
There
are two screens: one silk, one sandstone. At the control panel, viewers
scrub through video
sequences created with remote sensing devices. These are viewed
on the upright screen. Simultaneously,
the movie frames are hijacked and transformed into a "fungus farm" on
the rock screen in homage
to the ant species Atta texana, which harvests tree leaves in underground
cavities so vast they can
swallow tractors, so deep they can contain a 3-story house.
